Transitional Year Program

Transitional Year

The SAUSHEC Transitional Year Program provides a well-balanced graduate medical education with a broad overview of multiple clinical disciplines. This one year internship is designed to meet the needs of interns who will be proceeding onto further residency specialty training as well as those who will be serving as general medical officers following their first year of training.

The program includes rotations at both Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. It is a combined Army and Air Force training program with approximately 30 trainees per year.

Our Transitional Year Program is sponsored by three residency programs within SAUSHEC, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and General Surgery. We also work closely with the programs to which many of our residents are pre-selected to include Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Diagnostic Radiology, and Ophthalmology.
