Pathology Residency Program

The Pathology Residency program is a four-year combined anatomic and clinical pathology residency (AP/CP). The residents receive their training at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), one of the largest DoD medical treatment facilities. SAMMC has a Level I trauma center, a world-class burn unit (Institute for Surgical Research), and the only allogeneic bone marrow transplant center in the DoD. Our residents also benefit from select outside rotations at UTHSCSA, Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children’s Hospital. Strengths of the program include a busy cytology service, robust training in dermatopathology and hematopathology, as well as several other subspecialty-trained faculty. The training program incorporates the six core competencies of the American College of Graduate Medical Education, focusing on increasing levels of responsibility as a resident advances through the program.
