Internal Medicine Residency Program
The Department of Medicine has approximately 55 staff attending from all major specialties, including Geriatrics. In addition to the Internal Medicine Residency Program, subspecialty fellowship training is offered in Cardiology, Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, Gastroenterology, and Infectious Disease. These fellowships are integrated with Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and known as the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC). The Internal Medicine Residency Program is not integrated, and is known as the SAUSHEC BAMC Program.
The Internal Medicine Residency Program is a 3-year program including the internship year. Residency training positions are open to active duty military physicians, medical students who are currently in a military program, or civilian medical students willing to join the military. There are approximately 10 positions per year.
