Emergency Medicine Residency Program
The Department of Emergency Medicine, in partnership with WHMC at Lackland Air Force Base, conducts a nationally acclaimed teaching program for physicians and physician assistants. The San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC) residency in Emergency Medicine is one of the oldest and largest in the US and consistently ranked in the top 10-15%. The PA fellowship is one of only three training programs in the US that provides post-graduate specialty training in Emergency Medicine. The Department of Emergency Medicine also trains Special Forces Medics (18D), military and civilian medical students and residents and emergency nurses. The Department is actively engaged in research in emergency medicine, resulting in many publications in specialty medical journals and textbooks and representation in regional and national medical/scientific conferences.
