Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Welcome to the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC) Emergency Medicine Residency Program. This program is one of the nationís oldest and largest emergency medicine residency training programs. The program began in 1977 at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), and in 1987 became a joint program with the Air Force program at Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC). In January 2012, the BRAC commission merged BAMC and WHMC Emergency Departments which resulted in a renaming of the hospital to the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC). Below are some important aspects about the program.

Medical Students: Our program rotates over a hundred students each year with the goal of developing well rounded physicians for years to come as well as enhancing the residentsí opportunities to teach and lead patient care. Below are some important aspects of the student rotation.
