BAMC and Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) pediatrics have merged into a unified health care and student/resident education system. Inpatient care and inpatient clerkships are done at Wilford Hall. Outpatient care and clerkships are done at the Wilford Hall and BAMC general pediatrics and subspecialty clinics.
The medical student will work on the 40 bed pediatric ward (over 2000 admissions per year) under the supervision of pediatric residents and staff ward attendings. They will participate in the initial evaluation, diagnosis and treatments of a wide variety of patients admitted to this busy referral inpatient service. Responsibility will be delegated according to the student interested and ability to function under supervision.
This rotation is available in the busy 9 bed PICU/3 bed bone marrow transplant unit. The medical student will work under the supervision of senior pediatric residents and attending pediatric internists and pediatric oncologists and pediatric oncologists on this busy PICU/BMT Unit.
The student will work in the busy full service (ECMO, high frequency ventilation) NICU (15 level III beds and 15 step down beds) under the supervision of the staff neonatologist, neonatal fellows and senior pediatric residents. This clerkship is for fourth year students who want to increase their knowledge and expertise in the care of sick newborns.
