Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program

Hematology/Oncology

This is a three year program that offers training in Hematology and Medical Oncology. At the end of the training period, fellows will be board eligible in both subspecialties. There are 5 fellows in each year group of the fellowship (15 total). Ten main faculty members participate in the education and training of the fellows. Almost all are triple board certified (board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology). There is heavy emphasis on clinical skills/direct patient care. As a tertiary care referral service, this program offers a broad Hematology and Oncology experience through on site autologous and allogeneic High Dose Therapy programs and a Drug Development Unit/Program, linked to the Cancer Treatment Research Center (CTRC) of the University of Texas.

Education

The didactic education consists of informal lectures given by faculty during rotations as well as formal teaching. Weekly conferences consist of a Tuesday noon fellows conference, a Wednesday post clinic conference (informal discussion of clinical cases), a Friday journal club and a Friday, Hematology/Oncology Grand Rounds. In addition, monthly hematopathology, research and basic science conferences are held.
