Family Advocacy Service
The goals of Family Advocacy are:
- To prevent and treat child abuse and neglect and spouse/intimate partner abuse; to encourage the reporting of all concerns for abuse/neglect; and to provide prompt assessment and referral as needed. A recent change in reporting of spouse/intimate partner abuse or sexual assault allows victims the option of "restricted reporting," facilitating treatment and referral services without law enforcement or command notification.
- To provide or manage individual, family, and marital treatment for individuals or families involved in child and spouse/intimate partner abuse.
- To ensure that all child abuse cases are reported to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services at 1-800-252-5400, or via internet at: http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/ (IAW the Texas Family Code, professional staff are mandated to report suspicions or concerns within 48 hours).
- To provide on-call service for child abuse/neglect, spouse/intimate partner abuse and sexual assault emergencies through BAMC Emergency Department.
Patients can also be seen as walk-ins, with consults from providers, or Unit and Command consultation requests.
