Battlefield Health and Trauma Concept
This center will be the only DoD Level One trauma facility and burn center with strong support from the civilian community and continued collaboration with the University Health System. Under the BRAC Scenario, various DOD research programs will consolidate with the Institute of Surgical Research (ISR) located adjacent to BAMC on the SAMMC Campus. It will leverage synergy of clinical care and research activity to provide a powerful platform for excellence in battlefield health. An addition / alteration project is required to support new biomedical research laboratories, vivarium, administrative and support space. The add/alt project will support the establishment of the Joint Center of Excellence for Battlefield Health and Trauma and will include:
- Combat Casualty Research, Bethesda
- Air Force Dental Investigative Service
- Naval Institute for Biomedical Research
- Walter Reed Army Institute of Research Combat Casualty Care
- Naval Medical Research Center Combat Casualty Care
Some of the new ISR space requirement may be located within the SAMMC facility to directly support trauma research. Planning for the ISR Addition/Alteration is not covered in detail in this report but is being accomplished as part of a separate effort.
